ARE WE RESTORING HOPE OR INJECTING PESSIMISM? WHY ARE WE INCITING PEOPLE TO KILL EACH OTHER?
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS WHAT SOME CALL-THE RCA( Reggae compassionate act)
I have said this before, and must do so again, that- The reggae we created in trench town in 1962 has always been caring and concerned about the plight and sufferings of all people.
British playrights activist- Peter Tatchell, Eddie Brown et al has suddenly found a way in which they can link reggae music and some artists to the anti- discriminatory laws already on the books by using a false premise, and reggae as the scapegoat.
What they have done is to use some of the premises already laid down by my trench town reggae from the roots days and have twisted them into deceptive ways to make them seem to fit their deceptive agenda and causes.
I Ras Cardo who named and helped to create this genre of music will say this to the world:
THEY HAVE CHOSEN TO CALL REGGAE MUSIC-MURDER MUSIC, HOMOPHOBIC MUSIC.
MY TRENCH TOWN CREATED REGGAE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH WHAT SOME HAVE CALLED- "THE REGGAE COMPASSIONATE ACT"
THERE IS NOTHING COMPASSIONATE ABOUT WHAT THEY HAVE DRAFTED AS THE RCA.THE UNDERLYING INTENT IS DECEPTION.
MY TRENCH TOWN REGGAE WAS CREATED AND WILL SUPPORT THE RIGHTS OF ALL HUMANS, OF ALL CLASS, RELIGION, LIFESTYLES, AND CREED. IT HAS NEVER WAIVERED FROM THIS GOAL.
TRENCH TOWN REGGAE HAS NEVER COMPROMISED ITS VALUES OF RESPECT AND DIGNITY FOR ALL OF GOD'S CREATURES, AND NEVER WILL.
THE INTENTIONS OF PETER TATCHELL AND HIS COHORTS MUST BE VIEWED WITH SUSPICION SINCE THEY HAVE CHOSEN TO DESTROY WHAT CAME FROM THE POOR PEOPLE OF TRENCH TOWN JAMAICA WHO HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CONFLICT OF GAYS NOR LESBIANS IN JAMAICA, CANADA, UK,OR THE USA.
THE PROBLEM AROSE WHEN A DISGRUNTLED JAMAICAN PRODUCER DECIDED TO JOIN FORCES WITH A BRITISH GAY RIGHTS ACTIVIST TO ATTACK REGGAE AND REGGAE ARTISTS. THESE WERE THE SAME PEOPLE WHO FOR YEARS WERE BENEFITTING AND USING REGGAE TO MAKE THEM RICH AND TO SUPPORT THEIR CAUSES. WHAT HAD BECOME SWEET TO THEIR MOUTHS SUDDENLY BECAME BITTER IN THEIR BELLIES.
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THOSE WHO READ ABOUT THIS KNOW THE TRUTH BEHIND THE ATTACKS ON REGGAE AND REGGAE ARTISTS.
THOSE ARTISTS WHO HAVE SUDDENLY SIGNED THIS DOCUMENT SHOULD HAVE FIRST GET THE FACTS BEHIND ITS PURPOSE.
I AM IN FULL AGREEMENT WITH ARTISTS - FREDDIE MCGREGOR, TARRUS RILEY, AND OTHERS WHO SAW NO NEED TO SIGN A DECEPTIVE DOCUMENT WHICH IS NOT EVEN WORTH ITS NAME ON PAPER. ON THE FACE OF IT, THE APPEARANCE IS ONE OF INVITATION, BUT PETER TATCHELL HAS ATTACKED EVERY INSTITUTION IN JAMAICA AS BEING IN COLLUSION WITH THOSE WHO ARE ANTI-GAY.
ON SEPTEMBER 14th 2009 I WROTE AN ARTICLE ON MY SPACE ABOUT THIS SITUATION- IT WAS "AN OPEN LETTER TO THE GAY COMMUNITY WORLDWIDE". I HOPE THAT BY NOW THE WORLD KNOWS ABOUT IT.
THIS IS A PERSON WHO HAS SAID THAT-" THE HOMOPHOBIC LYNCH MOB MENTALITY IS WORSE IN JAMAICA THAN IN SAUDI ARABIA".
HE WENT ON TO URGE THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT AND ALL MEMBER COUNTRIES OF THE EU TO STOP SUPPORTING JAMAICA AND COUNTRIES LIKE JAMAICA".
HE HAS LIKENED ALL THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN MISGUIDED AS TO THEIR CHOICE OF LYRICS TO THE NEO NAZIS AND THE KKK.
THE DOCUMENT ITSELF IS QUESTIONABLE AS TO THE REASONS FOR ITS TRUE ORIGINS AND AS SUCH THE VERACITY OF ITS CONTENTS AND LEGAL EFFECTS IS DOUBTFUL AND POINTS TO THE SINISTER INTENT OF THESE MEN.
THEIR AIM IS NOT TO SPEAK FOR THE ANTI DISCRIMINATION OF GAYS BUT TO INCITE UNREST IN THE JAMAICAN GAY COMMUNITY, TO CURTAIL REGGAE MUSIC, AND TO SIT COMFORTABLY IN THEIR HOMES IN FOREIGN LANDS WHILE THEY WATCH THE SLAUGHTERING OF JAMAICAN GAYS ON TELEVISION. THEN TO APPEAR ON BRITISH, CANADIAN OR USA TV AND SAY- THEY HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.
I RAS CARDO MUST ASK THAT MY JAMAICAN PEOPLE IN ALL THEIR LIFESTYLES, NOT TO GET CAUGHT IN THE DECEPTION OF DESTROYING YOUR OWN PEOPLE, TRIGGERED BY EITHER INSIDE OR OUTSIDE FORCES IN JAMAICA.
MY REGGAE WAS CREATED FOR A HEALING OF THE NATION, AND ANY ARTIST WHO USES IT TO CAUSE HATRED MUST STAND THE CONSEQUENCES OF THEIR OWN ACTIONS.
THE RASTAMAN KNOWS ALL THIS TO BE TRUE OF REGGAE AB INITIO, AND THEREFORE NEED NOT SIGN ANY DOCUMENTS TO FAN THE BIASES, EVIL, GREED, AND PREJUDICIAL INTENTIONS OF WICKED MEN.
SO TO ALL RASTAMAN AND THOSE WHO WRITE AND SING REGGAE MUSIC AND LYRICS- I RAS CARDO SAY:
BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU SIGN. BE CAREFUL WHOM YOU SIGN WITH.
THERE IS NOTHING COMPASSIONATE ABOUT THEIR ACT. IT IS AN ACT TO DECEIVE AND TO DESTROY. VINDICATION, NOT CRIMINATION, SHOULD BE IN ORDER.
In the world today it is easy for some to forget where they came from, where they stand, and just where they want to go. Some are torn in so many directions and live a life of confusion, information overload, cognitive dissonance, delusions and illusions, paranoia, self-other-bias, borderline psychotic episodes and anxiety attacks, mental and physical collapse.
Our systems seems to cater to and contribute to all these maladies. So many experts in this and that to a list which appears endless, yet we are no closer to a cure for anything which attempts to ruin us.
We have lost ourselves and the creative abilities to reason with humanity and sincerety. Hypocrisy tends to define our modus operandi.
My creation of- Reggae in 1962 Trench Town and the music which brings its messages to the people, was done for a healing of the nation. I have made this crucial point crystal clear over the past 50 years to date.
I have tried to educate the people so as to liberate the people. I CREATED REGGAE FOR A HEALING OF THE NATION.
Reggae music has opened many doors for many people, not just for some youths in Jamaica, but now the entire world. The journey thus far has been- bitter-sweet. Bitter for those who have been robbed by the thieves and murderers of this music, and sweet for those thieves and murderers who will plunder and kill even their mothers to get what they want. Such are the ways of men.
The legal wranglings over the Bob Marley estate is a case in point.
I can tell the world again, that when Junior Braithwaite and myself gave the music and our blessings to our close friends- Bob Marley and Peter Tosh shortly thereafter, to carry on the messages of the sufferings of the people, it was done with love and trust.
I have lived to see and to trod the roads, hills and valleys of the struggles of our messengers and prophets including the slaughtering and assassinations of those who were dear and close to me and all the others from those times who know the truth. Most die in the poverty they have known so well since our childhood.
Some of their names the world has now become familiar with while others still remain obscure.
The world may say that I am a reggae historian. I am human enough to accept true praise, but I am not complimented by the adulations of men. So many speak of love while harboring hate and mischief in their hearts.
I know that there is -NO ONE- on this planet or any other planet who has the detailed truth in the history of our reggae and the music of our peoples from those early days-SAVE I - Ras Cardo from Trench Town, Jamaica.
This is not something of which I would care to boast, because it bears the pains and sufferings of all of us who made this musical genre possible for a healing of the nations. Why should I rejoice about a suffering of my people of which I was also a part?
WERE I NOT AROUND, THE WORLD WOULD HAVE GOTTEN A TWISTED AND DECEPTIVE VIEW OF US AND OUR MISSION FOR THIS MUSIC. MY MISSION IS CLEAR FOR THE MUSIC I CREATED AND MUST DEFEND AS TO ITS TRUTH.
Over the years many have deceptively robbed and killed our messengers who allowed them to enter their zone of safety. For those who have followed my writings over the many years, I have said- these works are sacrosanct.
I am here to set the records straight, and I know that it scares a lot of vampires and predators of this music. I know that a lot of those in the music industry who would wish to keep exploiting reggae and reggae artists become wary of my watchful eye.
I have seen where several who hails from Jamaica wanting to call themselves- reggae royalty, dynasty, monarchy etc. so as to deceive the people. This colonialistic thinking is still a cancer in our midst. The mental enslavement continues. Some said that they are the shepherds of reggae and was there with us when we started. Some have said that they were the ones who created the name, yet cannot justify how it was done. Some have spelled it wrongly in their attempts to steal my credits. REGGAY IS NOT -REGGAE!
Some have said that they have - a reggae compassionate act- which basically aims to incarcerate anyone who sings reggae beat lyrics which they claim- offends them. There are those who in complicity are incarcerated even as I write stemming from this action. They all want to shut the messages of reggae down. They want to keep the people in enslavement. THEY FEAR THE REVELATION OF TRUTHS WHICH REGGAE BRINGS. So that the lives and works of these my beloved brothers and sisters who have gone before be not in vain, I Ras Cardo who created reggae do hereby proclaim, as I remember- Junior Braithwaite, Peter Tosh, Cherry, Alton, Hortense, Delroy, Joe Higgs,Dennis, P, Kiethie, Justin, Garnet, Lucky Dube, Heavy- D, Tupac, Christopher Wallace, and so many more the world may never get to know.including my beloved parents who were also extended parents to all the youths in trench town. May their works stand as a message for peace for a healing of the nations.
Numerous attempts have been made to accurately portray the life and times of Bob Marley and of Peter Tosh to a lesser extent, but this will not happen until those who so wish do right by the trench town people of which I speak as one who was the creator and architect of this music.
My history is not on display in the Guinnes book of musical records, nor is it open day for the vipers to feast on.
There will never be another Bob Marley, Junior Braithwaite, Joe Higgs or Peter Tosh. I knew them well as their trusted brethren and friend who helped to mentor them and many more in those trench town tenement yards of which we all grew up.
